Income inequality: Mary Poppins has had enough

Mary Poppins has had enough!

For too long, the Chim-Chim-Cheree Poppins has been busting her chops to keep the Banks' house in running order – all the while imparting important life lessons to little Jane and Michael through song and dance. Now she's looking for her keep, and a spoonful of sugar ain't gonna cut it this time.

So says this supercalifragilisticexpialidocious video starring Kristen Bell and produced by comedy website Funny Or Die that draws attention to America's growing level of income inequality.

Meanwhile in Canada, nearly half (44%) of households living below the poverty line had at least one person working, something Citizens for Public Justice say points to the "rise in precarious, low-wage employment... while high-quality full-time jobs are becoming increasingly scarce."

Suddenly feeding the birds for a tuppence a bag feels like a bigger strain on the family pocketbook.

Compounding all of this is the jaw-dropping statistic that the 86 richest Canadians now have as much wealth as the poorest 11.4 million Canadians.

*sigh*

Take it away, Poppins:
